1973 gründeten die Schulfreunde Ian Mitchell, Damian ,Terry und Colin McKee die Band "Young City Stars". Sie spielten in Pubs und Clubs und wurden schnell bekannt. Sie eröffneten sogar immer mehr die Konzerte der Bay City Rollers.1976 verliess Ian die Band und schloss sich den Bay City Rollers an. Andy Legear schloss sich den Young City Stars an. Nach ein paar Monaten kam Ian wieder zurück.Roller Manager Tam Paton bemerkte ihr Talent und nahm sich ihrer an. 1977 wechselten sie den Namen zu Rosetta Stones.Ihr erstes Album "Rock Picture" kam 1978 heraus.Das zweite Album "Caught in the Act" kam 1979 heraus.Anfang 1979 verliess Ian Rosetta Stones und Flash (Paul Lerwill) kam für ihn. Paul ging Anfang 1980 wieder und wurde durch Enda Walsh ersetzt.Ein Jahr später trennte sich die Band.
